Second-Act Career Reinvention Tip How To Turn a Passion Into Profit
Second-Act Career Reinvention Tip How To Turn a Passion Into Profit Nancy, Id really love to __________( paint, cook, sing, knit, do carpentry, make chocolate, brew beer, fill-in-the-blank), but I dont know how to turn that passion into income. Sound familiar? Its a common concern that I hear from many of my readers. Figuring out what you love to do is (relatively) easy. Building a viable business around that passion or hobby, especially when your goal is to create a lifestyle-friendly career, often proves more challenging. But Ive got a suggestion that might help make the process of going from idea-to-income a bit easier. The next time you find yourself puzzling over how to generate income from your passions, search out the most successful entrepreneurs who are already doing what youd like to do, study their websites and analyze their business models. By doing so, youll discover proven models for monetizing your passions in the real world and useful information about how to price your own services and products. As you study their websites, ask yourself: What are their revenue streams? Is their income coming from selling informational products or consulting services or coaching or speaking or tutoring or advertising or videos or crafts or placement services or retreats or workshops or (fill in the blank). Do they earn income from multiple income streams? For example, one person might make their living from a combination of selling informational products, coaching and an hourly tutoring service. Another might run five retreats a year, sell inspirational notecards on their site and teach a class at the local community college. And yet another might generate their income from advertising on their blog and a few corporate speaking engagements. Make note of the different combinations of products and services. Then, think about which options might work best for your situation. Who are their customers? Are they selling to individuals or to government agencies or to nonprofits or to corporations? Is their a specific niche market that they target? What is their pricing mix? How much do they charge for their different products and services? What groups do they belong to? Pay attention to the associations, conferences and industry groups they mention on their sites they might be very useful to you as well. Remember, when it comes to building a business, there will always be a learning curve and an ongoing process of experimentation as you work towards developing your own unique brand. But you can speed up the process by carefully observing the most successful leaders in your field, noticing their mix of products and services and copying the very best of what they have to offer. Monster's Resume Writing ServiceMonster's resume writing service is one of the best tools that people use to get a better job in their current industry. They have the resources and manpower to assist you to get the job that you want. When I was looking for a job, I went to Monster and it was the best website I used. The applicant tracking system at the bottom of each resume helped me filter the resumes by the types of jobs. This was a very good idea, because otherwise I would have been wasting my time on some resumes that were not worth hiring. The application tracking system helps you find the job that will help you get hired quickly because it will show you the most popular company's job openings. It would be great if you can just apply to the top 10 companies, but it is too hard to do that. All you have to do is find a company that has jobs that are in your field and fill out an application with your specific skill set. When you have applied, then you have the opportunity to intervie w with the company. You need to apply to as many companies as possible, so it is imperative that you put as much time and effort into your resume as possible. When you have finished applying to Monster, it is imperative that you write your resume. You can either take the information you wrote in the application tracking system and create a template to use with your resume, or you can keep it as a separate document. Some people make their own resume and only use it for one company. If you do that, then you are limiting yourself. Some people think that they can only learn how to put together a quality resume through resume services, but this is not true. There are thousands of examples of resumes that people have created, but they all suffer from the same problems. They all have typos, grammatical errors, and they do not really match the content of the resume. You want to avoid this.Just go to Monster and download a free sample. You do not need any kind of software to use that informatio n. In fact, the free sample may actually be more useful than a professional resume.

Video Killed the Job Seekers Chances - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Video Killed the Job Seekers Chances - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career âVideo Killed the Radio Starâ led the charts in 1979 as the debut album for The Buggles and was the first music video shown on MTV at 12:01a.m. on August 1st, 1981. Video has now turned itâs destructive nature on unsuspecting job search candidates looking to amp up their brand with hot technology in hopes of grabbing the next lucrative position available in todayâs intensely competitive job market. Staying true to your brand Two of the biggest brands in the world can attest to the danger of straying away from a great brand in hopes of becoming hotter, sexier and trendier. In 1985, one of the most memorable brand failures of all time occurred when Coca-Cola launched New Coke to replace its flagship soft drink, Coca-Cola (a.k.a. Coke). The result: marketing failure and public distaste, literally. Within a short time, the original coke was back on the market and so were their sales numbers. Last October, after remaining true to the iconic American brand customers had grown to love, respect and appreciate, The Gap launched a new logo. The new look also unleashed a newfound fury inside their customers that had become as attached to The Gapâs logo as it had their merchandise. Following customer-driven social media outbursts, led mostly by Facebook fans, Gap switched back to the original logo after less than a week. 3 reasons video resumes will die young Reason #1: Hiring Managers Time is Limited. 85% of hiring managers read only the top half of page one of a resume (WSJ) and according to a recent survey by Career Builder, 38% of hiring managers spend less than 60 seconds reading a resume. Net result: job seekers have a half page to capture the 60-second attention span of a hiring manager. Reason #2: Message Quality. Given that the time is limited to 60 seconds, it now has to be a video thatâs compelling, engaging and entertaining. Unless youâre looking for a career in the arts, the message has to combine your experience, education, accomplishments and expertise with a catchy yet not kitschy skit to captivate the viewer. If you can compete with David Lettermanâs Top 10 or Jay Lenoâs âjay walkingâ segments to land a Finance Director interview, maybe youâre in the wrong profession. Reason #3: Cost. As a professional career coach, Iâm an advocate for investing in yourself and your job search strategy. Hiring a professional resume writer? Great idea. Hiring a video resume producer? ABANDON SHIP. If you have money to spare, donate it to the Red Cross to support any one of the recent natural disasters. Considering that traditional resumes sent via email already get caught by spam filters for simply being sent as Word documents (hint: get yours through by sending it as a PDF). If you want to guarantee yours never lands on the hiring managers desk, just attempt to send a video file. Can you say corporate IT red flag? Give yourself every chance possible to land the job (and, in this case, save some money doing it). Stick to a good old-fashioned resume, just polish it up and put your best foot forward. Wreck This Journal Chew, Lose or Vlog
Wreck This Journal Chew, Lose or Vlog GUYS! GUYS! ITS MY 200TH POST! Holy crapballs thats a lot. I wanted to arrange for it to rain balloons streamers ice cream cake in the homes of all my readers, but I just didnt have the time. So, I picked a new, exciting, awesomely awesome way to celebrate a video of me! Talking chewing paper! At the end of this post! Its just like ice cream cake, right? Right? Right. Im getting so into the book, its been kinda sorta taking over my life. In addition to all the pages you see below ( the video! Eek!), I have started 3 or 4 more pages that arent quite done yet. I am loving this process am constantly thinking about what I can use for the book while out about in the world. Im also taking the Perfectionism Vampire punching him in the face, while embracing my inner 6 year old allowing myself to play for playing sake. This group is filled with amazing artists, while I love seeing their creative, beautiful, inspiring work I have found that Im not comparing myself to them anymore (as in They know what theyre doing/are amazing I dont/am sucky). My pages are my pages. Theyre there as a showcase of me, if they arent as creative or beautiful or inspiring as the real live artists in the group, wellthey are, because theyre mine. Its a really nice feeling, letting go of this competitive streak while allowing the pages of others to inspire me. The big disappointment this week is that my journal wrecking date at the High Line with Magpie this week was canceled due to the rain. I read in an article dated June 19th that NYC has gotten double the amount than usual, the month was still 11 days from ending! Im putting my sights on July for Magpie + When I Grow Up wreckage! So, without further adieu, the damage for the week: Notice the end all the way at the top? Thats when my pen decided to commit page suicide: Yes, I believe I will have a hunchback by the time I turn 40. I always carry a ridiculously heavy bag with me: Bye, page! Hope a nice Mets fan going to Citi(Taxpayers) Field on the LIRR will find you give you a good home: These were the remains of some When I Grow Up postcards that I cut up. I used the white parts to make a sunny day (left, yes, thats a boat in the water birds in the sky) a rainy day (which it was at the time, not surprisingly!). The heart was there prior to the sunny day/rainy day idea I just kept it, even though rainy days can suck it right now. I also love the idea that something from my coaching is in my book. It adds some love between the pages: Inspired by Keri Smiths Touch Map, I traced my hand then filled it in with everything I remembered touching so far that day: But this is the motherload, people. I know that I didnt walk the journal as promised (feel free to call me out on it I have a ton of excuses but not really a good one), so I created a video of me chewing on paper to make it up to you. Yes, its my first vlog post! That still totally counts as doing something scary (both vlogging eating paper), so hopefully Ill be off the hook for not doing my journal walking this week. Here you go: enjoy! Eek! Wreck This Journal: Chew Here from WhenIGrowUpCoach on Vimeo This was gonna be where I ended the post, until I realized ITS MY 200TH POST! Holy crapballs thats a lot. I wanted to arrange for it to rain balloons streamers ice cream cake in the homes of all my readers, but I just didnt have the time. So, the video above a new, exciting, scary frontier will be the celebration! Its just like ice cream cake, right? Right? Right.
